BackgroundAntimicrobial ingredients are typically found in antibacterial hand soaps (hand washes) and hand sanitizers (hand rubs). Hand washes and hand rubs are over-the-counter (OTC) topical antiseptic drugs and thus are regulated by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
