- Safe Kids Champion for Children Award recognizes exceptional efforts to protect kids from preventable injuries, the leading cause of death to children in the U.S.
The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) was honored with the Safe Kids Champion for Children Award at the Safe Kids Worldwide International Childhood Injury Prevention Convention (PrevCon) for its outstanding contributions toward preventing childhood injuries. The award recognizes an individual, business, government agency, or organization that has made a significant impact in the field of child injury prevention.
ACI was among the 20 individuals and organizations honored at PrevCon, a three-day gathering that convened more than 600 child health and safety professionals from around the world. Since 2021, ACI has been working with Safe Kids Worldwide to promote child safety around cleaning products, specifically combating the dangerous trend of storing household products in decorative containers that can attract children.
“Through initiatives like the #StoreNotDecor campaign, ACI has been instrumental in raising awareness about safe storage and in helping families properly store household products out of a child's reach,” said Torine Creppy, President, Safe Kids Worldwide. “We’ve witnessed ACI’s deep commitment to preventing accidental poisoning and to educating the public about the unsafe storage practices that are sometimes glamorized on social media. We are thrilled to honor them for their work.”
As part of its commitment to child safety, ACI has led initiatives like the long-running Packets Up campaign, which encourages parents and caregivers to keep liquid laundry packets up and out of reach of young children. ACI also launched a widely distributed public service announcement (PSA) video, showing the #StoreNotDecor campaign, to visually reinforce the importance of safe storage. Additionally, ACI developed a Home Safety Guide in partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide and Horderly, which offers practical tips and visual tools to help families organize their homes in ways that prioritize child safety.
“This recognition underscores the power of collaboration in protecting children from preventable injuries,” said Jennifer Abril, President and CEO, American Cleaning Institute. “Through our partnership with Safe Kids Worldwide, we’re helping families make simple, practical changes - like safe storage - that have the potential to save lives. ACI and the cleaning products industry is proud to stand alongside so many organizations dedicated to this important mission.”
PrevCon is one of the world’s largest gatherings of individuals and organizations dedicated to childhood injury prevention. Preventable injuries are the number one cause of death for children in the United States. Throughout the world, almost one million children die of an injury each year, and almost every one of these tragedies is preventable.
