Members of Congress examining ideas to reform the tax code should look no farther than the negative impacts of the tax subsidies upending the U.S. oleochemical industry, according to ACI. ACI is concerned about misguided government subsidies that negatively affect the price and availability of animal fats, a key feedstock for the oleochemical industry.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is reiterating the need to follow proper usage and storage practices when handling laundry detergents, including single-load liquid laundry packets, in a new alert issued by the agency. ACI says the key message is: All laundry and cleaning products should be kept out of sight and out of the reach of children.

California’s proposed Safer Consumer Product regulations are unclear, would cause confusion in the marketplace, place heavy burdens on business and provide little benefit to consumers, said ACI in comments to state officials.

The U.S. oleochemical industry will continue to be hard hit by the EPA’s policymaking on the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS2), according to ACI. The Institute says EPA has dismissed the concerns of the domestic oleochemical industry relating to the RFS2 impact on the price and availability of animal fats, which are key feedstocks in some ACI member products.

ACI has been and remains committed to passage of legislation that strengthens and modernizes the Toxic Substance Control Act. “It is critical that any legislation enacted into law continues to enhance consumer confidence in a strong, reliable and credible federal chemical management program. We will continue our efforts to obtain a bill that protects product and process innovations without detracting from EPA’s ability to conduct a robust chemical management program,” said ACI’s Ernie Rosenberg.​
