In light of a Canadian government review of a key antibacterial ingredient, the American Cleaning Institute reminded consumers that triclosan has a decades-long track record of safe and effective use in personal care and hand hygiene products. After a preliminary screening assessment of triclosan by Health Canada and Environment Canada, officials there reiterated that triclosan-containing products are safe for consumers to use.

Spring cleaning is still a tradition for many Americans – 62 percent of those surveyed say spring cleaning is an annual ritual in their home. According to new research from ACI, 73 percent of those who spring clean strongly or somewhat agree that it’s a tradition worth keeping. But 13 percent of this group (18% of men, 8% of women) strongly or somewhat agree that if it wasn’t for spring cleaning, they would probably never clean their home!

A new poll finds that the vast majority of Americans uses antibacterial soap and finds it to be a useful tool to prevent the spread of germs. And two-thirds of Americans would be “angry” at any government attempts to ban the products. The poll, released by the American Cleaning Institute and the Personal Care Products Council, reports that 83% of consumers should have the choice as to whether or not to purchase these products.

The 85% total was actually the highest observed since these studies began in 1996. 75% of Americans say they regularly engage in spring cleaning, according to The Soap and Detergent Association’s (SDA) 2008 Spring Cleaning Survey, conducted by International Communications Research (ICR). That number is up considerably from SDA’s 2002 and 2007 surveys, when 65 percent said they regularly spring clean. Gender-wise, 86 % of women say they spring clean, compared to 68 %of the guys.
