Awards CONGRATULATIONS to 2016’s Healthy Schools, Healthy People: It’s a SNAP National Award recipient, Ernest S. McBride High School in Long Beach, CA. Their bilingual campaign, "Soapy Warriors"/ "Los Guerreros del Jabón," included an original song, classroom presentations, campaign posters, and colorful take-home calendars to track at-home handwashing routines. Check out the campaign … and start one in your own school so that you can apply for next year’s award!
Surfaces CLEAN HANDS AFTER WARM WEATHER FUN! Longer days mean spending more time outdoors and greater exposure to pollen, garden dirt, and other outdoor grime. Remind all family members that staying healthy means washing their hands as soon as they come indoors helps to reduce the spread of germs or allergens that they may have picked up outside. It’s something the entire family can do … but be sure they are following the right steps for effectiveness, too!
Handwashing CONTROL ALLERGIES AND ASTHMA ON SURFACES. For many, warmer weather can signal the onset of hay fever or trigger other allergies or asthma, too. Prevention is key … and keeping allergens at bay can start with basic surface cleaning techniques. Follow product label directions; spray onto a cloth or sponge (instead of the surface); clean in a well-ventilated area (open a window or turn on an exhaust fan); and aim to have allergic family members handle other chores rather than cleaning pollen- or dust-prone surfaces. Learn more about cleaning to control allergies and asthma in your home this season.
Dishes LET’S DO THE DISHES! "Homework season" is drawing to a close – so what better time than now to get kids helping with the daily dishes? By assigning regular tasks and trying a "team" approach, you can involve kids of various ages in clearing, scraping, washing and loading – while always keeping safety in mind. (No knives/fragile items for the little ones!) Check out our handy tips and downloadable checklist as idea-starters for a quick and efficient nightly cleanup that includes the entire family.
Elizabeth Stroz from New Jersey is the lucky recipient of our $2,500 *KEY Pledge Gift Card prize! The KEY Pledge encourages families to keep liquid laundry packets out of the reach of children, and to educate other parents and caregivers of young children about the safe use and storage of these laundry products.
