SDA bestowed the honor at its 76th Annual Meeting and Industry Convention, held January 23-27 in Boca Raton, Florida. Mrs. Spillane, Chief Executive Officer of Minneapolis-based National Purity Inc., passed away November 24, 2001, at the age of 87.

"She served for 20 years on SDA's Board of Directors. She provided wonderful leadership and sage counsel, and she will be greatly missed by SDA, our board, our members and by me personally."

The SDA Elva Walker Spillane Distinguished Service Award recognizes outstanding leadership and service to the cleaning products industry and to SDA. The award was accepted by Jack Spillane, Elva’s husband, who is President of National Purity Inc.

“This award signifies the many characteristics of Elva Walker Spillane,” added Rosenberg.

A nurse by training, Mrs. Spillane was recognized in Minnesota and around the country for her leadership in numerous health, educational and aging organizations.
