American Cleaning Institute Statement: Revised Draft Legislation,
the Chemicals in Commerce Act

Washington, DC, April 24, 2014 – Ernie Rosenberg, President & CEO of the American Cleaning Institute (, the trade association for the U.S. cleaning products industry, made the following statement on a revised version of draft legislation, the Chemicals in Commerce Act, by Rep. John Shimkus (R-Il):

"We are encouraged by Chairman Shimkus’ ongoing commitment to seek a bipartisan solution to modernizing the Toxic Substances Control Act.

"This is a substantive step forward in efforts to forge a bipartisan overhaul to a law that touches every product, but has not been updated since 1976. The process is arduous, but ACI will continue to work toward a stronger federal chemical law that should reflect recent progress in science and technology and advance further innovations.

"A strengthened TSCA has the potential to promote even greater innovation in the development of more sustainable cleaning products."
