Stahl Soap President June Stahl Honored with SDA Distinguished Service Award

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 4, 2004 – June A. Stahl, President of New Jersey-based Stahl Soap Corporation, is the 2004 recipient of The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) Elva Walker Spillane Distinguished Service Award. She was honored during SDA’s 78th Annual Meeting & Industry Convention at the Boca Raton (Florida) Resort & Club.

“Leadership, dedication, and service are all words that come to mind when speaking about June Stahl,” said Robert A. McDonald, outgoing Chair of the SDA Board of Directors. “As the longest-serving member of the SDA Board, she has played a central role in making SDA a better home for smaller companies in the cleaning products industry. Common sense, compassion, perspective and humor are all qualities that June possesses and brings to the table when it comes to her service to SDA and our entire industry,” added McDonald, President – Global Fabric & Home Care, The Procter & Gamble Company.

June and her brother Ken, who serves as CEO of Stahl Soap, have owned the company since the passing of their father and the company’s founder, Ilbert Stahl, in 1975. Ms. Stahl has served on the SDA Board since 1984 and was the Board chair from 1997 to 1999. She sits on the Board’s Executive Committee and has chaired its Human Resources Committee.

Stahl Soap Corporation (www.stahlsoap.com), which manufactures in Hoboken, NJ and is headquartered in East Rutherford, produces soaps in bar form for several markets, including janitor, paper, and sanitary supply distributors; amenities (hotel/motel) suppliers; government contracts (Federal, State & local); and private label manufacturing for a variety of businesses.

“SDA has been important to Stahl Soap from the time our Dad came to the US from Vienna in 1939,” said June Stahl. “At that time, the SDA helped Dad to re-establish his business. As a small business, SDA has always been a vital connection to us: the technical resources, the legislative information, and the lobbying efforts are areas that we could not have easily handled on our own. In addition, the networking with other industry leaders continues to be an important reason for our affiliation. I am honored to have served the SDA and its members. It is very special for me to receive this award which is given in the memory of my mentor on the SDA Board, Elva Walker Spillane.”

The SDA Distinguished Service Award is named in honor of the late Mrs. Walker Spillane, the former National Purity LLC chief executive who served on SDA's Board for 20 years. The award recognizes extensive or exceptional service to SDA, which promoted the growth and interests of the Association, and the industries it represents; and the exercise of outstanding leadership within the Association.
