Advancing the Science Webinar Series:
Chemical-Induced Asthma

Asthma-specific hazard characterization approaches: A novel approach to a complex problem

October 21, 2016
Webinar content will be made available to registrants

A discussion of ongoing hazard characterization guidance developments specific to asthma that account for gaps in toxicological, epidemiological, and exposure information.

This 30 minute webinar will be followed by an hour-long round-table discussion with each of our previous speakers.

Learning Objectives:

  • To describe the current gaps in toxicological, epidemiological, and exposure information that limit robust risk assessment
  • To describe alternative approaches in hazard and risk characterization for chemical induced asthma
  • To identify high priority research needs and promising new developments for asthma safety assessment

Dr. Maier holds a Ph.D. in toxicology from the University of Cincinnati and a M.S. in industrial health from the University of Michigan. He is certified in both industrial hygiene (CIH) and toxicology (DABT). His research focuses on occupational risk assessment methods and tools. Specific areas of interest include: developing and applying methods for setting exposure limits for acute and chronic occupational and community exposures; improving cumulative risk models that consider multi-pathway exposures to chemicals in occupational and non-occupational settings; and developing biological markers for mixed stressor exposures in the workplace and community.
