Despite the threat of getting sick during cold and flu season, less Americans say they are regularly washing their hands. The fourth Clean Hands Report Card®, issued by The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA-www.cleaning101.com), gives Americans a “C-minus” for their hand hygiene habits, the same grade they received back in 2006.

According to The Soap and Detergent Association’s (SDA) 2008 National Cleaning Survey, conducted by Echo Research (ER), people most commonly use wipes to clean, disinfect or sanitize kitchen countertops and appliances, bathroom fixtures, their hands, face and skin, furniture, children, floors, windows and clothing.

While some rap lyrics may be down and dirty, students at Sampson G. Smith Intermediate School kept them clean – as a way to teach their classmates about the benefits of good hand hygiene. "Yo stop touching that dirty can, Go to the sink and Wash your hands, If you want to go on a date, Jump up and wash your hands For goodness sake."
