Antibacterial handwash products containing the ingredients triclosan and chloroxylenol play “beneficial roles in the daily hygiene routines of millions of people throughout the U.S. and the world,” which should be thoroughly recognized by the Food and Drug Administration, according to comments submitted by ACI.

Proposed rules by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) could remove antibacterial soaps and body washes from store shelves – and might lead to 7.5 million new cases of foodborne illness and more than $38 billion in health care costs annually. That’s according to comments filed with agency by The American Cleaning Institute and the Personal Care Products Council.

The American Cleaning Institute announces the one year anniversary of its KEY Pledge safety education campaign, reaffirming its commitment to keep children safe from accidental laundry packet exposures and injury. The campaign is reaching parents and caregivers with important safety information. Since the campaign was launched in June of 2013, more than 41,000 consumers have made the pledge to a safe laundry room and routine through an online pledge system.

Students at Dorsett Shoals Elementary School in Douglasville, GA gave “2 Thumbs Up for Healthy Hands.” That led to national recognition for their handwashing awareness efforts by the “Healthy Schools, Healthy People, It’s a SNAP” program, a joint initiative of ACI and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
