Amway’s Robert Hamilton Honored With
ACI Distinguished Service Award

Bob HamiltonOrlando, Florida - January 30, 2014 – Robert Hamilton, a 40-plus year veteran of the cleaning products industry who has been a hands-on contributor to consumer product development and science-based policymaking, is the 2014 recipient of the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) Elva Walker Spillane Distinguished Service Award.

The honor was presented during ACI’s 2014 Annual Meeting & Industry Convention at the Grande Lakes Orlando (Florida).

Mr. Hamilton has spent the last 37 years at Amway Corporation. Throughout much of his career, he has been involved as a scientist and group leader in the development of consumer products, especially detergents, cleaners and specialty chemical formulations.

Since the early 1980s, he has also been actively involved in providing advice and participating in formal programs that contribute to science-based public policy. Since 2000, he has been Regulatory Policy Director for Amway.

Mr. Hamilton has lent his expertise to many of ACI’s committees and work groups for more than 25 years, especially the Research, Technology and Regulation Committee, Consumer Affairs & Outreach Committee, and the Strategic Advisory Committee.

Mr. Hamilton’s efforts have contributed greatly to ACI’s technical programs, science-based public policies, and consumer education and outreach materials. Examples of his service include contributions to exemptions from the California Volatile Organics rule, the industry voluntary ingredient disclosure policy, and the ACI Product Fact Sheets.

"If one were to add another definition to ‘sweat equity,’ it would simply be ‘Bob Hamilton.’ He has worked tirelessly over many years to strengthen ACI and the work we do on behalf of the cleaning products industry," said Ernie Rosenberg, ACI President & CEO. "We could never say ‘thank you’ enough to all that he has done for our association and our industry."

Mr. Hamilton has shared his considerable knowledge on many industry policies and issues, including designation of products as environmentally preferable, groundwater protection programs, air quality issues, consumer label comprehension, ultimate environmental fate and health effects of consumer products, and life cycle management issues.

ACI’s Distinguished Service Award is named in honor of the late Elva Walker Spillane, the former National Purity LLC chief executive who served on the association’s Board for 20 years.

The award honors an individual for extensive or exceptional service to ACI, who promoted the growth and interests of the Institute and the industries it represents; and who exercised outstanding leadership within ACI.
