The American Cleaning Institute  (formerly The Soap and Detergent Association) joined forces with the  the NEA Health Information Network in 2008, to create a national awards program for custodians. This partnership provided both organizations with an opportunity to work in collaboration on school cleanliness and showcase the vital link between health and hygiene. Improving the well being of students, teachers and the community, has been an issue that ACI has been committed to since 1926.

As the non-profit health affiliate of the National Education Association, the NEA Health Information Network (NEA HIN) provides health and safety information to the 3.2 million educational employees and students it serves. NEA HIN distributes information nationally through NEA's 51 state/territory affiliates as well as 14,000 local education associations.
