Job Opening: STEM Internship

The American Cleaning Institute (ACI), located in Washington, DC, is the non-profit trade association representing manufacturers of household, industrial, and institutional cleaning products and their ingredients. ACI members produce more than 90 percent of the cleaning products marketed in the U.S. ACI is offering a full-time, paid internship to support our science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education program.

Major responsibilities will include:

  • Creating a hands-on activity and lesson guide about the chemistry behind the creation of cleaning products for middle school students
  • Identify STEM outreach opportunities on social media and with other organizations by investigating similar efforts online
  • Provide general support to the STEM program

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Must have taken at least one year of general chemistry
  • Majoring in education, a scientific discipline with an education concentration, or a similar program
  • Candidates should possess general proficiency with personal computer software (e.g., PowerPoint, Word)
  • Must possess the ability to work independently and with a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Taken courses in education
  • Experience working with children ages 10-14

On-the-job interactions will include:

  • Continuous interaction with all ACI staff as necessary
  • Contact with ACI member company experts

The internship is available for ten weeks starting in May 2018 through the end of the summer.

Please note that housing assistance is not available.

The intern will be paid $13.25 per hour and is expected to work between 30 and 37.5 hours per week.1
